LOCAL OFFICERS IN RECENT FIGHTING
Captain G Watson Failes
Captain Gerald Watson Failes, Norfolk Regiment, was killed in action on the 15th Inst. He was 23 years of age and was the son of Mr Watson Failes, of the Limes, Tilney St Lawrence, Kings Lynn. He had been on active service for over 3 years, and had previously been wounded. At the outbreak of war he enlisted as a trooper in a cavalry Regiment, and was later given a commission. He was awarded the Military Cross for a particularly brilliant exploit, and was regarded as an extremely capable officer, and was held in high esteem by his men.
