The Tadman family history is recorded on the Tadman's own web site.

Charles (Wag) Tadman (also known as Charles Ennever) was born in about 1875 to Charles Ennever and Elizabeth Tadman, who married shortly before Elizabeth's death in 1884.  Both Charles and Elizabeth had had previous spouses and children although we believe this was Elizabeth's only marriage.

"Wag" became an East End florist while his uncle, Thomas Tadman and his wife Phoebe, were undertakers in Cable Street, Shadwell, London from the mid-19th century.  Thomas's father, also Thomas Tadman, who was born in Yorkshire appears to be the founder of the undertaking business being recorded as an undertaker in the 1851 census although from 1861 he is only recorded as a clog maker.

Thomas Tadman junior's children, Alfred William Long and Richard (Dick) Long, from a relationship with Dorcas Elvina Long, who he married after Phoebe's death, then continued the family undertaking business and most of the family had reverted to their natural father's name by the turn of the 20th century.

If you have any further information about the history of A&C Tadman or the families involved I would be delighted to hear from you.  I would like to thank Jane Mills and Molly Craven for their help in solving the mystery of the identity of Charles "Wag" Tadman/Ennever.
