      Notes: With his son Moses he was killed at Bailey Brook colliery on Tuesday 30/12/1890. According to the Heanor Advertiser, they were working at No 8 stall soft coal. They were buried under a fall of bind. The Deputies - Messrs Wardle, Hogg and W. Jager - led recovery of the bodies after an hour. the remains were brought to the surface around 9 a.m and removed in a cart to West-hill, Derby-road, Heanor. "The bodies presented a frightful spectactle". The coroner returned a verdict of accidental death. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon 2 January 1891. Many shops were closed from 2 to 4. Upwards of 100 members and friends from the Primitive Methodist Church, Park Street, Heanor, were followed by club members of the United Order of Britons. Many more people were at Heanor cemetery. Mr Ed Harrison, secretary of the United Order of Britons, read a sermon at the close. Both coffins were interred in one grave.
