    • Many family trees incorrectly have Frank marrying Amy McGowan in NSW 1896. This Frank's father was Fredk Thomas Buchanan and his mother, Rose Brickworth.

    • Buchanan, Frank Walton (448) Private, D Squadron. Blacksmith from Glebe. Born Glebe, 29/7/1861. Parents: William McLeod Buchanan (d.1898) and Mary Ennever, who had 3 sons and 4 daughters (1860-71). Served with B Company, NSW Infantry, in the Sudan, 1885, as Private [401] under name of Frank Buchanan. Worked for the Leichhardt Volunteer Fire Brigade. Married Amy V. McGowan in Sydney, 1896. On departure for South Africa on 15/1/1900 was farewelled by a smoke concert at Perry’s Royal Hotel, Leichhardt. Left Sydney per s.s Southern Cross, 17/1/1900 and disembarked Capetown, 19/2/1900. Wounded at Welgelegen, 7/5/1900. Returned to Australia per s.s Tongariro, departing Cape Town, 31/3/1901 and docking at Woolloomooloo, Sydney, 1/5/1901. Discharged 1/5/1901. Awarded QSA and 5 clasps: Drie/Jhb/DH/Witt/CC. Mother moved to Camberwell in Victoria. WW1: AIF: Enlisted as Private [704] in F Co., AN&MEF, 11/8/1914. In Rabaul, New Guinea. RTA and Discharged, 4/3/1915. Gave his mother as NOK in 1915. Enlisted as Corporal [1537] in 6th Squadron, 2nd Remount Unit, 24/9/1915. Served in ME. RTA 29/4/1916. Discharged 17/6/1916 on disbandment of Unit. Died Nymagee, NSW, 2/6/1943. Buried Rookwood cemetery
